Bridge Holidays

If you enjoy playing cards and meeting new people then a Netherwood Bridge Holiday might be for you!

Helen Barr is a very lovely lady who runs our Bridge Holidays for us. If you wish to book onto any of the Bridge Holidays then you will need to contact Helen.

All our holidays are personally hosted by Helen Barr, often accompanied by her husband, Patrick. Bridge is as well organised as you would expect with an EBU TD in command. All the rules of bridge are obeyed, but we never lose sight of Helen’s favourite, law 74, so bridge is always fun! We have all mod cons, including electronic scoring with Bridgemate IIs, meaning results are ready within seconds of the last table finishing, and duplicated boards, with copies of the hands available at the end of play for either formal or informal discussion.

At the Netherwood Helen offers two types of Bridge Holiday:

“Social Duplicate” holidays are aimed at the non tournament player and those who would like to improve their game. There will be seminars in the morning. Guests may request a particular topic, preferably when booking, but the day before the seminar should give Helen enough time to prepare the hands. Talk on the theory will be kept to a minimum so that there’s plenty of time to play the hands. One morning a holiday, there will be an individual competition just for a change. In the evening there will be regular bridge sessions with prizes but no master points. Helen will be available after the session or the following day for advice on the evening’s hands.

“Competitive Bridge” holidays are aimed at tournament players and are licensed by the EBU. Master points at District Scale and generous prizes are awarded at every evening session.

Tournament players will still be welcome on the “Social Duplicate” holidays as will less experienced players be on the “Competitive Bridge” holidays.

Of course, you will be entitled to full use of the all the hotel facilities during your stay, including the indoor heated pool, spa and fitness centre.
